Act 1, Scene 2, Brabantio

"So opposite to marriage that she shunned The wealthy curled of our nation.." (pg.25, line 86)

This quote gives insight on Brabantio's feelings towards his daughter. It basically comes out and says that he is ashamed off his daughter for running off and marrying Othello, someone of differnet color. He speaks of how she let down the nation and how he is trying to pin all this conflict on.

This quote can be connected to a larger theme, because it has to do with racism. Even though Othello is of a differnt racial status than Desdamona he is a very well respected man of higher authority and Brabantio can not accept that at this point in time.

"That thou hast practiced on her with foul charms"
practiced on her- meaning -- tricked her.

Do you think that Brabantio will ever open up to accepting Desdamona's marriage?

Why do you think that Brabantio is trying to blame his daughter for the war?

Pg.1143

A.
1.) What will it take for Gregor's dad to accept him as a bug? Even his family?
I think that his dad may not even accept him as a bug considering all the events that have occured during our readings. His Dad doesn't really know what to think and seems to be really ticked off by the fact that Gregor had transformed since he was their main support, like it was Gregor's fault. His Dad is pissed and stressed knowing that now he has to take care of the whole family when he is just not physically fit to do nor is the mother. His family may eventually accept him as a bug for his sister loves him and at first showed some love, until a couple days after she started giving up on him. His mother doesn't know what to think I believe she just can't understand.
2.) Does Greggor feel as though when/ or if he turns back into a human he will have to take care of his family again?
Yes, because although when he was a human and he took care of them bringing in all the income and working his hardest to make sure that his family could give back the money they were in debt for he did hate it at times, but it is his family and it was back in those days where childern helped support their families. Although the whole family helped each other. His family was different his mother has asthma and his Dad is just getting really old. As for his sister Gregor didn't want his sister to work, because he knew that she had so much going for her. When he transformed at first he was relived but after a while he sees how much not helping them affected his family. They started falling apart emotionally. Im sure that if he changes that he will go back to helping out his family.

The book turns out to be disapointing in the end. Gregor doesn't end up turning back into a bug and they decided to let Gregor's sister go off and get married so that she can come back and take care of them since Gregor can't. And Gregor becomes "flatened"

I believe that it is a disapointing ending. Gregor doesn't end up turning into a bug and his family just leaves in his room and he ends up dying of possible starvation. And instead of the father of the family can't even take resopsibility of the family on his own so he decides to have his daughter married of so that her husband can come and take care of them. Its just wrong how after all that their son has done for them they just leave him there even his sister. They just leave him there to die.
