- How did Big Brother still kill Winston without making him a martyr? Why was it important for Orwell to end the book this way?
- What other martyrs have there been in history? Imagine/describe what the world might have been like if these figures hadn't died as martyrs. Imagine/describe what the world might have been like if these people hadn't been able to communicate their independent thought!
