In class we talked about 'slavery is freedom' the slogan from big brother. Winston thinks the only way to be free is to be a slave. If your not a slave than you arent living. I think that statement is kind of confusing but i understand it.
Q: Does Winston have an emotional attraction to the girl or is it more physical?
A: Winston has said that since he met Julia, he has had a desire to live. He had trouble passing time and was worried about her when he didnt see her. That shows a deeper connection than just physical its also emotional. Since the beginning he liked her but he dont know what he was feeling, he didnt like what he was feeling and assumed it was hatred.
Q: Why does Winston like this girl?
A: First its the physical attraction, she is beautiful and young and he questions why she would even be interested in an old man with missing teeth like himself. He likes her because he hasnt felt what Julia has allowed him to feel for years, since his wife nearly a decade earlier. He likes that she has had sex with lots of party member because it points to corruption.
