Why did Winston think the women outside was so beautiful?
I think that Winston thought that the the women singing outside was so beautiful because he reminded her of a real person. Someone who had her own thoughts and did as she wanted. Somebody who, no matter what happend, she still had hope and life inside her, and she sang.

Why did Winston do nothing for Julia when being beaten? Even though he said he loved her?
I believe Winston did nothing for Julia when they were being captured because there was nothing that he could do. No matter what he did or what he said, nothing would have changed. If anything fighting back would have just made things worse, and not just for him but maybe for Julia too. So in a way i think the reason he did nothing in the room was not because he was scared, but because he was protecting himself and Julia.
